Crested Butte, Colorado is a ski resort but is also known as the Wildflower Capital of Colorado. The mountain town has real charm and when the snow melts that skiers love, they stay for the wildflowers that will soon come.
One of several creeks that the spring thaw creates in this basin area south of Ouray, Colorado. The basin is a collection point for several creeks that converge and bring moisture and silt that feeds the abundant wildflowers. Four wheel drive and high clearance vehicles recommended.
On the southern end of this lake is a campground where this photo was taken. Shadow Mountain Lake hooks up with Grand Lake and is between the towns of Grand Lake and Granby, Colorado.
