Autumn is the best time to visit this area near Cottonwood Lake and Cottonwood Pass. The area is accessed by taking West Main St. out of Buena Vista, which s Hwy. 306, west to Hwy. 343, which takes you to Cottonwood Lake. Follow Cottonwood Creek from the lake and you will find many such views as you see in this image.
Photographers who photograph outdoors in all kinds of weather have a secret: the more dramatic and overcast the sky is, the more colorful and saturated the colors are. An ordinary close up of aspen leaves on the ground is transformed into a colorful subject of leaves that are in varying degrees of decay and beaded with raindrops from a recent shower.
My friend and I were camping near the lake and I saw a sunset developing as evening neared. The shoreline rocks and grasses became silhouetted as the sky divided into deep blues and reddish orange.
